The Electrical Sample Kit is one Brio toggle, one rotary dimmer and one outlet, each on a single gang plate in the finish you choose. Set them against the paint, the tile and the cabinet fronts, and see how brass reads in your rooms at breakfast and after dark. Every piece is a working, installable product, not a swatch.

Options and prices

All three pieces install like the full size products, in about five minutes each. Have a licensed electrician fit them if you are not comfortable with wiring.

1. Turn off the power. Switch off the circuit at the breaker or fuse box before you touch anything.
2. Remove the old cover plate. Take out the screws holding the existing plate, lift it away and set it aside.
3. Take out the old switch. Unscrew the old switch from the electrical box and ease it forward so you can reach the wiring.
4. Disconnect the wires. Free the wires from the old switch. If they are wrapped around screws, loosen the screws. If they are pushed into holes at the back, cut them and strip the ends with a wire stripper.
5. Connect the wires to the Brio switch. Black (live) to the brass or black screw, white (neutral) to the silver screw if your switch calls for it, green or bare copper to the green ground screw. Tighten each connection firmly.
6. Secure the new switch. Fold the wires back into the box, line up the switch and fasten it with the screws supplied.
7. Fit the brass plate. Set the Brio plate over the module and tighten the two face screws with a flathead screwdriver.
8. Turn the power back on. Reset the breaker or fuse at the panel.
9. Test it. Flip the toggle up and down. The light should switch cleanly on and off.
